Submission Guidelines

We are trialing working with Expressions of Interest / Proposals.

If you are interested in being published in Passage Journal, this is the first step.

Please notice, in order to promote diversity and new voices, we’ve decided to not publish work by the same author in consequent issues. So, if we have published one of your pieces, wait an issue before sending your work to us again. Thanks for your understanding!

Expression of Interest

Please send to maria.gilulldemolins [at] uhasselt.be.

a proposal for your piece :

  • under 500 words.

  • attached to email as .docx file or similar

We aim to get back to you within a month.

If the proposal is accepted, we will draw a personalised timeline and submission deadlines for your article.

Once your EOI is successful:

Articles

We understand an article to be

  • between 5000 and 8000 words.

  • previously unpublished.

  • in English.

Please notice that while we are focused on written work, we are open to pieces that explore text plus images, sound, video, etc.

Style Sheet

Our style sheet is available here.

Peer Review

All successful articles will be peer-reviewed.

Citations

Passage uses the Chicago style of reference. See our style sheet.

Please note that Passage focuses on the juxtaposition of established fields of knowledge and practice, and personal experience. As much as we are looking forward to discovering how authors challenge and push the boundaries of typical academic formats, we do not accept creative writing that does not critically and rigorously engage with other academic and/or artistic work. Our emphasis is very much on the encounter, the hybrid, and the clashing between these two approaches. We do expect duly referenced research to support, complement, or contrast any more creative intervention. We regard references as a necessary formatting rule with which to engage, and will refuse unreferenced pieces.

Rights and permissions

It is the responsibility of the authors to ensure the copyright of any and all material they provide allows them to use it, even if Fair Use is presumed. When in doubt, you can use a link to the material you are referring to, rather than the inclusion of it in the piece.

Passage is proud to support open research. Hence, be aware that we operate under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. This allows our readers to use the articles we publish in any way they see fit, as long as they acknowledge authorship. Your author rights remain yours at all times.
